Lille-Moulins and its industrial heritage - 2h00
Recommended duration: 3h00, adjustable from 1h30 to 3h00.
This walking tour focuses on Lille’s industrial heritage, from the 19 th century to the present day, in the district of Moulins.
The introduction of steam engines and mechanical looms during the Industrial Revolution turned Lille into a key industrial hub, particularly in textiles. The historic city quickly filled with factories and workers, and annexed neighbouring suburbs – like Moulins – to continue its industrialisation.

Come and discover the fascinating district of Moulins, a district with its very own image and identity within the city of Lille. Let’s meet outside Gare Saint-Sauveur, a former freight station converted into a vibrant cultural venue, then let’s see an iconic former brewery before finding out how the once imposing spinning mills have been converted into places for living, culture or education.
Discover where the workers, who faced harsh living and working conditions, lived, and how they coped. Sounds a bit Dickensian? Don’t worry, Moulins has a way of making visitors fall under its spell!
